We wrapped up our unit on Body Systems. We studied the skeletal and muscular systems, the skin, and nutrition. Our main focus was on the skeletal and muscular systems, their functions, how they interact, how our behaviors and nutritions affect our body, and how to keep our body healthy with proper nutrition and exercise.
For our IB Summative project students worked in groups to make a final project on either the skeletal or muscular system. They had to include the following in their presentation: 1.) The importance of the system, 2.) The ways in which the system interacts with other systems, 3.) Food and nutrients needed to keep this system healthy, and 4.) Exercises needed for this system. Students chose to present their information in a poster, an acrostic poem, a song, or a story from the point of view from a bone or a muscle. Most of my students chose posters and acrostic poems, but I had one group this year who chose to re-write "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" into a song about muscles. I was quite impressed with the levels of questioning my students exhibited throughout this entire unit, the connections they made, and the cooperation they demonstrated during their final project. Below are some pictures of the presentations.
